This painting on steel features Tenzin from Legend of Korra. Behind him is the emblem of the Air Nomads from Avatar: The Last Airbender and Avatar: the Legend of Korra.
In Avatar the Last Airbender, the Air Nomads are peaceful monks similar to the Tibetan/Buddhist monks of our world. The air people mainly lived in four different air temples (Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western). At the start of the Hundred-Year War, the Fire Nation used the power of Sozin’s Comet to wipe out all of the air people except for one: Aang, the Avatar and the very last airbender.
In the Legend of Korra, we see that the ability to bend air still hangs on by a thread as Aang’s son, Tenzin and Tenzin’s 3 children all posses airbending abilities. Later, through the actions of Korra, the new Avatar, airbending abilities are given to several more people, most of whom band together and try to rebuild the legacy of the airbenders.
